Types of tests that can be requested.

Xeno Test

When it comes to ensuring the quality of leathers, one of the most important aspects is their resistance to time and weather conditions. To test this characteristic, the aging test is used, a procedure that simulates the effects of weathering on the surface of the leather. In particular, the test reproduces the damage caused by sunlight and rain, which can manifest over the long term. The test is carried out inside a special chamber, where the leather is exposed for a long period of time, usually between 1500 and 2000 hours, in order to verify its long-term resistance.

Flexing is one of the biggest challenges for leathers. The flexometric test is an advanced method that evaluates the ability of a leather to resist flexing and other creases in flexing folds. To perform the test, the sample is bent with the surface to be tested facing inward and clamped in an upper mobile clamp, while the opposite surface is fixed in a lower clamp. The upper clamp action causes a crease in the leather to form and the test piece is periodically examined for any damage. The flexometric test is a crucial measure to ensure the quality of leathers, as it evaluates the material’s resistance to torsion and bending forces, allowing manufacturers to create durable and long-lasting products.

The tensile strength test represents a crucial test for the characterization of leather materials, as it allows the resistance to breakage in case of elongation to be evaluated, ensuring a durable and reliable product for any intended use. During the mechanical test, the sample is gradually subjected to an increasing uniaxial load, up to the breaking phase, through a process of deformation. It is a test that allows essential information to be obtained on the strength and durability of the leather, to ensure high-quality products and reliable performance over time.

The tear resistance test is a unique and important method for evaluating the resistance of our fine leathers. During this test, a leather sample is gripped between the jaws of a dynamometer that exerts an increasing force on the incision. The tool measures the force required to completely break the sample. The shape of the sample influences the type of norm and test to be performed, ensuring maximum accuracy in the results. With this test, we are able to guarantee the strength and reliability of our products, offering our customers only the best leathers available on the market.

Color migration is an unwanted phenomenon that can occur when leather comes into contact with different materials. This type of chemical reaction can compromise the quality of the final product and must therefore be avoided. For this reason, a rigorous migration test is carried out. It evaluates the ability of the leather to maintain its integrity and chromatic stability in the presence of different materials. Thanks to this test, we can guarantee that our leathers can be used with confidence in the production of high-quality products, without compromising the aesthetics and functionality of the final products.

Color fastness is crucial to ensure the beauty and durability of leather products. The Veslic test, performed by dry and wet rubbing with a wool felt, evaluates the color resistance to rubbing and its stability over time. This test allows to evaluate the quality of the leather surface and to ensure high-quality, wear-resistant and rubbing-resistant products to customers.

The water resistance test is a precise investigation for highly water-repellent leathers, typical of products intended to be continuously exposed to water, such as work shoes, motorcycle suits, and more. The leather sample is immersed in a water bath and then subjected to a slight bending to evaluate its reactivity to tension. The test can be used to verify the speed of water penetration in the leather section or to evaluate its absorption capacity. In this way, it is possible to guarantee maximum water protection for finished products that require high performance and reliability over time.

Leathers can be exposed to human sweat during use, especially in clothing, footwear, and accessories.
To ensure that leathers do not suffer damage or deterioration due to contact with sweat, the sweat test is performed. This test simulates real use conditions and evaluates the leather’s resistance to the action of sweat, measuring any changes in color, texture, or overall material quality.
A leather sample is immersed in an artificial sweat solution and subjected to controlled humidity and temperature conditions for a specified period of time. At the end of the test, the sample is analyzed to verify any signs of degradation or alterations. The sweat test ensures the durability and resistance of our leathers to daily use conditions, offering high-quality and reliable products over time.

pH control is essential to ensure that leathers are compatible with human skin and do not cause irritations or allergic reactions. The pH test measures the acidity or alkalinity of the leather, providing crucial information about its quality and the adequacy of the tanning processes used. During the test, a leather sample is immersed in an aqueous solution, and the pH is measured with a sensitive electrode. The ideal pH value for leathers should be between 3.5 and 4.5, ensuring excellent skin tolerance. With the pH test, we can ensure that our leathers are safe and comfortable for daily use.
